Christmas is comming the Goose is getting FAT

Christmas Week was awesome!!
My brothers were all home (they decided to stay home after Gpa Bob’s funeral).
Monday Dec. 22 was the annual Hafen Christmas P A R T Y.

Maissie decided she wanted to sing a solo (Jingle Bells)

Ok, so she got a little stage fright and needed some help, but it was still super cute.
Some how I missed pictures of the trombone song by my Mom, Arthur, Sam and my Dad.

Tues. Dec. 23 we ate at Lindo Michuacan (sp?) only like my favorite place to eat. Then we went to watch the fountains.

Wed. Dec. 24 we had a surprise visit from Auntie Em, Mario, Ben and Oreo who were on their way to Utah.
We ate Tamales YUM, and went to see the lights at Ethel Ms.

Christmas Day was super fun. We got these awesome wiggle/coaster cars. My Grandma Kathryn, Aunt Donna and Uncle Ross came for dinner.

Maissie had a blast opening presents. She didn't care whose name was on the gift, she opened all she could. Jens was mostly observing. Maybe she is thinking of strategies for next year?

After the funeral

After the funeral we went to temple square to freeze our butts off oh see the lights too.

Sam made friends with the bag piper. He takes a good pix.

We just happened to be there on the anniversary of when my dad purposed to my mom at the flag pole. Too sweet. This is them telling the story.

After I could no longer feel my toes we went to eat at a super yummy place- Lamb something or other, but it was GOO-OOD.

Grandpa Bob's Funeral in SLC

We went to Gpa Bob's funeral in SLC on the most snowy weekend EVER!! We left on Thurs. afternoon and luckily had no prob. getting there.

Friday we went to the funeral home. I was so happy everyone cooperated and we were there on time (small miracle). The service was very nice. My parents played a duet, Arthur played the trombone and my mom accompanied him in Ave Maria. I do have to say that Maissie was a little confused about the urn. We told her that we were going to the funeral, and she asked if he would be in a box like Gma Posey. We told her it would be a smaller box (he was cremated) to which she replied "I don't think Grandpa would fit in a small box."

From the time we got the funeral home to the time we left to the cemetery it snowed like 50 feet- ok, so I didn't have a ruler, but it was a lot. So much we had a crapper of a time getting to the cemetery. Poor Mark was driver and slipped all over the place. I really hope I can get a picture from my mom's camera to show how hard it was snowing.

We got stuck trying to get out of the cemetery. About 6 people were pushing the car that was going no where. Finally with Marks mad skills, and help pushing we got out.

After the service we went on an adventure to find good food. We ended up at a Mexican cafe that was super. A big shout out to Los Lemones- they came to the service and were a huge help with the girls.
It was nice to hear stories and memories about Grandpa Bob. We are going to miss him.

Good Bye G. Gpa Bob

My Grandpa Bob was taken off life support today. This picture was taken yesterday in the hospital. His heart and lungs were no longer working and the machines were keeping him alive. He was very coherent, and alert yesterday. It was his decision when and how to turn off the machines.
I am grateful we were able to spend time with him yesterday. I will never be able to eat ice cream, cake or brownies without thinking of him. He always had to get the perfect ratio of ice cream to brownie/cake. If the amount was off, he would keep adding until it was just right. I am relieved to know he will have no more pain, and I hope he is at peace.

Christmas Tree, Sleepy time, Keith and Jack

Mark's parents are so good to us for many reasons. For example, they hunted down a Christmas tree in the Unitas, and brought it to us. MJ was soo excited to put the star on the tree.

MJ has never been a snuggler. We can pretty much remember every time she fell asleep in our arms. And now she is a big 4 year old I thought I wouldn't tally any more she-fell-asleep-in-my-arms times. Until Sat. (12/6) She just came and sat on my lap. I was watching Keith talk about a skit with Jack Black and she just fell asleep. It was a Kodak moment.

Yes, it happened to ME!!

When I was on maternity leave with MJ I got completely caught up with Ellen. She gives away great prizes on her show, and I try to win most of them.

Well, Tues. afternoon, I got a call. All I can really remember is "Is this Jessie?" "Ellen show, $150" and lots and lost of no ways, screaming, and a little happy dance. Yep, little ol me who has NEVER won a drawing for anything- as a matter a fact, I usually fill out drawing kind of stuff and think, won't this be fun for the person who wins- but I WON!!! YES, I won $150 gift card. After I hung up the phone, the thought did cross my mind that I had just been punked. But sure enough, Sat. (12/13) it came in the mail (ok, I only check the mail once or twice a week, so it may have come earlier). Can a I get a WHOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!!? . . . WHOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Shitty Shots Vol 2

You may remember me talking about shitty shots. Well, turns out I still haven't learned for Mark to take them. MJ got 4. And I failed to realize that now she is older, she knows what is going on, and the shots are not just given as a surprise- but rather there is much build up, and it took an hour (yes, an hour, and anyone to talked to me on the phone during that hour can attest) to calm down and stop the screaming.

And now would be a great time to give a shout out to one of my BFs Carolyn, who I had many conversations with this week, mostly about puke, poo, red spots etc.

Puke, Piss and Poo

I need a raise. Puke, Piss and Poo, all within like 20 min- none of it mine, all of it I cleaned up.

Re-living childhood terrors

For Thanksgiving we went to Auntie Em's house in San Jose. Cousin Ben has a wagon, and the girls loved it . . . at first.

Here is the back story. We also had a wagon when I was young. My mom would drag us around. The only problem is it tipped as in tipped over and the people in it (Arthur, Clark and I) fell out. It was very traumatic, and we tease my mom relentlessly about it. Like every time we see a wagon we talk about it. Last year I even sent her a picture of the updated wagons that now have seat belts in them.

So I am telling my mother in law about the traumatic wagon when we were little and Mark is running around with the kids in it. Sure enough, before I could finish the story the kids were dumped.

I guess we can now tease Mark and my mom :).

MJ is 4!

MJ turned 4! I know, I can't believe it either. I think she had a good birthday. We had a little party with some of her friends on Sat, and then on Sun a family party. Amazing Mark made the cake. Turned out it was a stripper cake because when you cut it open, Barbie wasnt wearing clothes!!

LEMONS!!

We have had lemon trees (2) for about 6 years. Until this year I think we have gotten in TOTAL 4 lemons. This year the trees went crazy!!

Grandma Posey's Funeral

Well Grandma Posey lasted 97 years. She passed away 11/8 and the funeral was 11/15 in Cortez CO. This is us at the lunch after. Where is Jens and Uncle Carlos? Oh yeah, the amazing Carlos was pushing Jens around so I could eat. How nice. :)

It was really nice to see family that we had not seen in a long time.
Cortez was . . . interesting. We got to change hotels at 1030 pm after realizing the water had brown floaties.

We did get to stop at Four Corners:

Arthur and Clark had to switch places because Jens was freakn out at Arthur's hair.

Mark didn't get to go. I am certain that next time we take a 9 hour trip each way, four day leave he will come :).

A Piano!!!!

We went to Utah over Veterans Day weekend (It was a crazy last min decision, one of Mark's family members died so we thought we would go be with his family). We picked up Grma Jensen's piano- awesome!!! We love it. MJ plays me songs all the time. I am sure the songs will be even better when the piano is even close to being in tune.

Notice the two inspirations. Thanks Lis for the awesome Jesus picture.

MJ and Jens also came home with BYU shirts from Gma and Gpa Lemon

Yes We Can HOPE

I want so bad for MJ and Jens to understand the significance of what has happened tonight. I wish they could feel my sense of HOPE and finally some optimism. I wish they knew how much vindication this gives so many people. I wish they could they could see the difference between just yesterday and tomorrow. I wish they could see the attitude change in leadership. I HOPE they will be able to look back at this moment of time and appreciate it. I HOPE we can ride the momentum to produce bigger, greater, better. And mostly, I HOPE this means a stronger foundation for their future.

November 1st

This year for my birthday I decided to plan everything out- this one had to count. My Dad was nice enough to watch the girls so Mark and I could go shopping. Then we ate at Cafe Rio. We went for a bike ride (I got my butt kicked). Mark made my favorite foods (Carmel, Chocolate, Angel food cake, home made chips, candy, candy candy). Clark and Carlos came. And we played some Wii. And all throughout the day I opened presents. It was definitely one of the best.

Halloween 2008

Oh, Halloween-one of the best days of the year. We started out by going swimming in the Dennet's new pool. Yep, it was warm enough to swim. MJ made sure Tigger and Pooh were buckled up for safety.
Then we went to trick-or-treat at Mark's work.
Uncle Clark and Uncle Carlos went too. They were a lot of help.
My Dad was an even bigger help and washed the car and gassed it up for us while we were visiting Mark.
We did go Trick-or-Treating. Jens favorite house was the one that just left the candy bowl out. She went to that house twice. MJ thought everything about it was fantastic. She loved handing out the candy just as much as getting it. (They didn't get any soup though :))

Check this out

Have you ever thought, we can do this project, it wont take too long. And then forever later it still isn't done? Last week we had our carpets cleaned. While the furniture was all moved Mark and I thought it would be a good idea to paint our room. Our room isn't that big, and we have painted every other room in our house. Only problem, we knew we couldn't do it with the kids around. So after they went to bed on Friday night (10/24) we started to paint. At about 4am we called it quits. We have worked on it just about every night since. We still have some touch ups to do but here are the before and after pictures:

I almost forgot to take the before picture

I love it!!

Halloween is my FAVORITE

Ok, lets be honest. Does it get any better than an abundance of candy and dressing how ever you want? Oh no. Halloween is by far the best holiday. We went to a fall festival (and the camera fell out of my pocket in the car, so this is the only picture I got), and this is MJ showing off her Hello Kitty painted arm and balloon sword. The picture I wish I would have gotten was MJ finishing the obstacle course, or Jens in pure delight blowing on her "loot" as MJ would say (I think the rest of us say flute).
After the fall festival we went to a Halloween Party. They had a bunch of different themed rooms with things to do. It was well decorated- they had spooky decorations, and they had a bunch of things to do.

pumpkin patch

We went to a pumpkin patch with some friends. It was super fun. MJ loved everything about it, but mostly she loved the slide.
Jens like the animals. She kept signing dog though. That was about the only thing she liked. Oh, except when we went home :)
PS- it was HOT?!! So much for fall weather.

And that's all I have to say about that

Thanks for the buttons Mom.

My pumpkin

Today MJ wanted to wear her Halloween shirt. Only one problem-- it is too small. We went round and round about changing. She is soo stubborn- and I have no idea where she gets that from :). You can see who won this battle.

Harry Reid

We went to listen to Harry Reid today. What I heard was interesting, but I didn't hear too much. MJ was more interested in crawling on the library floor. I know, gross. And, all MJ wanted to see was my cousin Tessa. Jens slept almost the entire time. I dunno, I think this could be a cover pix for a magazine.

Cans

I would love to say that I have instilled a great sense of environmental responsibility in MJ by teaching her to recycle. But the real story is she loves to take the cans out to the recycle at my parents house. I think it is a game she plays with herself, how many can she possibly hold.
